Darren grew up in Brooklyn, NY in a family that loved and valued music. After first experimenting with the guitar, Darren decided to try learning to play the drums and ultimately fell in love with this instrument at a young age. He went on to study with professional jazz drummers who introduced him not only to the intricate rhythms of jazz drumming, but also to funk and the Brazilian styles of Bossa Nova and Samba.

Darren’s personal favorite music genres are within the world of indie rock, including a wide range of Britpop, 90’s Alternative, Grunge, and Post Punk bands. He’s played in a wide variety of bands, performing all over the NYC music scene and is a skilled studio recording musician as well.

After 30+ years of playing the drums, he offers a very unique approach to teaching which will blend techniques and rhythms from his wide range of education and influences. This will take any student at any level to the next level in a fun, methodical, and faster than usual timeline.
